Developing New Habits!

One bad habit that many busy people have acquired is to start the day by opening their e-mail, rather than working to a plan.

Improved self-management involves changing habits. However, breaking old habits and learning new ones is difficult for everyone. Three keys to the acquisition of new habits are:

  1. Launch the new habit as strongly as possible. Change your routine immediately, and announce the change.

  2. Never let an exception occur until the new habit is firmly in place.

  3. Seize the first opportunity to act on your resolution; when you delay implementation, it becomes more and more difficult to start the new habit.

When you begin, expect two to four weeks of effort before the new habit seems natural.
