Robert Louis Stevenson, 1850-1894 was born in Edinburgh. He became a lawyer, then turned to writing travel sketches and short stories. Treasure Island and The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde brought him fame.
He is buried in Samoa where his epitaph reads: ‘Under the wide and starry sky, / Dig the grave and let me lie...’
