“Imagination was given to man to compensate him for what he is not; a sense of humor to console him for what he is.”
Francis Bacon, British born philosopher and statesman was the son of Nicholas Bacon, the Lord Keeper of the Seal of Elizabeth 1. He studied at Trinity College Cambridge, entering at age 12. Penniless at 18 he rose to become Chancellor of England. Accused of bribery he was dispatched to the Tower of London (four days only) and never held high office again. He saw the universe as a problem to be solved and his ideas on inductive thought had a profound influence on the development of science in 17th century Europe.
