Talison Lithium Becomes More Streamlined and Less Stressed Thanks to Microsoft Suite Training

Talison Lithium, located in Greenbushes in the southwestern region of Western Australia, operates a lithium mine that functions continuously 24/7, and is run by around 600 staff. Known for being one of the world's leading lithium producers, Talison Lithium is recognized for hosting one of the richest lithium deposits globally. The demand for lithium has increased substantially in recent years due to the growing popularity of electric vehicles and the expanding use of rechargeable batteries.
To keep up with demand for lithium, the mine went through an expansion phase. This required upskilling existing team members and training for new recruits to ensure efficient and productive operations. Since 2019, Priority Management has been a valued training partner for Talison Lithium, assisting more than 170 employees in adopting a business planning approach while utilizing Microsoft Suite. Priority Management helped the company to streamline their operations by training their staff to harness the full collaborative, tasking, project management and communications tools available to Microsoft Suite.
Training Approach
Priority Management distinguishes itself through a strategic collaboration with clients. Our learning programs are specifically crafted to align with the specific needs and desired solutions of each training group. This methodology was showcased in our partnership with Talison Lithium, where we concentrated on several key principles to ensure the success of our training initiatives.
We conducted a series of workshops, including WorkingSm@rt with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft OneNote, and Microsoft Teams, alongside Basic to Advanced Excel and Word sessions. Additionally, we implemented customized Access programs directly at the Greenbushes site. Both existing and new employees were guided on utilizing the capabilities of these robust Microsoft tools, empowering them to take command of their workdays.
Client-Centered Training
The foundation of effective training begins with the understanding of our client's unique work environment. For Talison Lithium, this involved a thorough exploration of how they incorporated Microsoft Suite into their workflow, focusing on areas of improvement like time management. This approach guaranteed that employee training content was tailored for maximum impact on their daily operations.
Creating Guidelines
In seeking to align their workforce in the usage of Microsoft Suite, Talison Lithium needed to establish a set of best practices for staff to follow. Leveraging our knowledge of this suite of applications, we collaborated with participants to formulate guidelines on Microsoft Suite protocols. The outcome was a framework promoting consistent and efficient utilization of Microsoft applications throughout the staff.
Clarification of Features
While Microsoft Suite is a set of powerful tools, its full potential is often underexplored by working groups. To ensure that all relevant efficiency-boosting features were known by employees, we thoroughly reviewed key functionality, guiding participants on when and how to leverage them within their specific workflow. With this clarification of features, Talison Lithium staff could fully benefit from the software’s productivity and collaboration assets.
Follow-Up Training for Sustained Results
A key aspect that sets us apart as a training provider is our steadfast commitment to post-training support. Acknowledging that training is a continual process, not a one-time event, we extended our collaboration with Talison Lithium beyond the initial sessions, offering crucial follow-up coaching. This laid the groundwork for enduring and transformative behavioral improvements at Talison Lithium in the form of enhanced communications, task management, information sharing and collaboration.
Training Results
A post-training survey showed that as a result of training, the average time saved per person per day was 60 minutes. Staff also enjoyed a 63% reduction in stress.
